Resident Evil 2 Remake review

Introduction

Today we are going to review Resident Evil Remake 2, we want to see if this remake is worth your time! We had a lot of fun when making videos. It has been a long time since I played the original, so long ago, I could barely remember it! The graphics looked incredible when we saw the trailer. If you are not into horror games, you might not want to play this game, as this is not an action game. Bullets are few and zombies will be attacking you after every corner! Can you survive in Raccoon City?

What did I think before playing Resident Evil 2 Remake?

After playing the Halo franchise and reviewing those games. We wanted to review another franchise and since we do not have many horror games reviewed yet.  Thus, we looked for a horror series and this is how we ended up with looking at Resident Evil, this is the game that we wanted to start with. Zombies are everywhere, and they want your brains, can you find the secrets of Raccoon City, we did need more information though, and we checked the Steam Page!

The Steam Page

What pops up as the most fun is that this game is a reimagine of a classic horror game. No insane bullet sprees with mowing down zombies, instead we will need to scavenge for bullets and other items while avoiding them! It also seems to feature high graphics, which will help for making good jump scares!

Rating

I rate Resident Evil 2 Remake with a 9.3 before playing.
If you are interested in survival horror games, this is one of the games that you need to try!

Story

The story takes place in two scenarios, you can take either Leon or Claire for the first story, the second scenario can be done with the other character or even the same one!

Leon is a new cop in Raccoon City, he was ready to start his first day, but it seems that faith has different plans for him. Leon gets haunted by zombies, meets Claire on the way and tries to save anyone still alive, despite not many people being alive, this is how his story begins as a zombie fighter!

Claire is looking for her brother Chris, who works in the Raccoon police department, on her way, she meets Leon, but they get separated, Clair works hard to get reunited with Leon but along the way she meets a little girl.

Rating

I rate the story of Resident Evil 2 Remake with a 9.7
The two stories interact at certain moments, while they both take a different journey, it all comes down to a few of the survivors of Raccoon city trying to stay alive.

Gameplay

The gameplay of Resident Evil 2 is similar for both characters where you explore the police station and other locations near it, however both characters find themselves in other parts of the police station to solve the mysteries of the Umbrella Corporation. Along the way you will gather key items to open more places of the police station, soon you will find yourself in other places like the sewers and more! Despite this being a remake of an old game, the game is still long if you play both scenarios with each character!

While you might think it is a good idea to stop zombies non-stop, it will most likely get you killed, as bullets are few and zombies are many. Add to the fact that most zombies have a huge health pool, and shooting them in the brain only kills them temporarily. To shut these zombies down for good, you will need to aim for the head, a lot. Scrounging up items is also not an option as you will have to deal with inventory management. Ignore doing that, and you might as well let the Licker eat you.

The survival horror instinct in this game is real, zombies will be everywhere, monsters that can one hit kill you but the worst of them all is a mutant that will chase you relentlessly. Make one small sound or scuffle with a zombie, and he will find and kill you. The worst part, he is immortal until the end of the game! You can however use sub weapons like grenades, flash grenades or even a knife to escape. Always keep a knife with you, or death might come swiftly.

Rating

I rate the gameplay of Resident Evil 2 Remake with a 10.
The jump scares are insane, the eerie silence in the police station gives me the creeps!

Sound and Graphics

Graphics

The graphics are insane and violently gross, if you dislike blood, limbs being ripped apart, people getting eaten or anything remotely close to that, avoid this game at all costs. The graphics are very realistic, it sometimes even looks like a movie, the developers did an amazing job at recreating this game. To think, that I originally played this game on the Nintendo 64 is just weird!

Sound

The soundtracks create the perfect atmosphere for this game, you never know what is around the next corner. It might be nothing or a Licker will be waiting for you, if you are silent and make no noise, you can sneak by some enemies! At some points in the game, the music got so strong, combined with the fact a monster was all up in my face sniffing while I was standing there, my hands started to shake, and I was like, please leave me alone, I have no herbs to heal!

Rating

I rate the sound and graphics of Resident Evil 2 Remake with a 10.
Graphics and soundtracks have been combined into a very real looking horror survival game, where every corner has you terrified, you can hear the sounds of the enemies in perfect sync of the ambient noises. Using the sounds you can plan ahead or make a break for it, this is very useful for detecting one hit kill monsters! Use your ears to survive!

What did I think after playing Resident Evil 2 Remake?

Not only do Claire and Leon take another path in the police station, they also have different weapons. It all depends on your play style what weapons you like more, however for us, it felt like Claire was the best option. Not only does she have a grenade launcher with acid rounds, it also has fire rounds that will take care of the most annoying enemy in the game. Living plant monsters that love to corner and hug you, the problem? Their hug is deadly and the only thing that can kill them is fire, while Leon does have a flamethrower, it also means coming close to these Ivy monsters that want to cuddle you to death!

If you dislike inventory management, you are going to need to solve some puzzles while finding random notes scattered everywhere. The clue might be in an article, it might even be on the flyer. Or who knows the combination of the safe is literally on the safe. These puzzles are not only to further your progress, you will also find loads of optional items, even weapons but most importantly, hip pouches! These will grant you extra slots to manage! If you find them all, the endgame will be much easier!

Rating

I rate Resident Evil 2 Remake with a 9.4 after playing.
While the game might only take five hours to beat on your first try, if you were to complete each scenario with both characters, it would quickly add up. Add to the fact that you might want to hunt down achievements for extra weapons and infinite ammo, it is going to take you a while to finish everything! There is even an extra mode to play!

What are my personal thoughts about Resident Evil 2 Remake

This falls into the category of a remake done right, it retains the original elements what made the game awesome and upped that factor by tenfold. Amazing graphics, great gameplay, eerie music and horrifying encounters with zombies! My wife and I had so much fun with Resident Evil 2 Remake, we decided to play more Resident Evil games!

Rating

My personal Rating of Resident Evil 2 Remake is a 9.6.
Let the zombie escape simulation begin!

Who in the world build a police stations with that many puzzles, and how did people live there comfortably? Oh, want to go to the basement? Well, collect the three medals and use the code! Did you know there is even a chess puzzle in the sewers?

This game is really good, but I personaly dont agree with the ratings, too perfect, it’s a really really cool game but almost a 10 is a bit to much

I have to say, all this recent remakes of Resident Evil games ie (RE2 remake & RE3 remake) are so well done & I’m glad they embarked on the remake project. I actually started off playing the RE HD remaster but fund the controls clunky. So I skipped that & went straight into the newest title I had at that time (RE 3 Remake). I thoroughly enjoyed the game & had just recently 100% the game. I am hype & looking forward to playing this RE 2 Remake. Cheers for your review. I can identify with many of the points you made as it nails it spot on for me as well. 🙂
