Introduction

Today we are going to run in circles, yes, many, many circles to avoid demonic skulls that want to swarm over you! Oh, wait there are also weird spiders, it looks as if they are wearing hats. This is the game, that if you blink, you are dead. We are going to look at a game called Devil Daggers. And, I was not kidding, this is an arena shooter, and if you blink, you are dead! For this review, there will not be a story section, you will be running in circles while trying to not die, yep, over, and over, and again!

What did I think before playing Devil Daggers?

I am normally not into the arena shooter games, but, a lot of people recommended to me that I should try out this game. While I did play Crossbow Bloodnight, and it was not really my thing, I wondered, if another arena shooter, would scratch that itch more, of shooting things and not dying! There was only one way to find out! For more information, we are going to visit the Steam Page!

The Microsoft store page

While the Steam page is not very interesting, there is a lot of information to process, one of the things that intrigued me was a lot of enemies on screen, and that they would never, clip into each other. That is something that I really needed to see. As I played the game, I noticed that screen recording did not work, thus I only have some failed screenshots. Many videos later, I gave up on trying to make one!

Rating

I rate Devil Daggers with a 7.2 before playing.
I was very interested to see what this game had in store for me, despite this genre not really being my thing.

Gameplay

The game seems fairly simple at first, you pick up your dagger and start throwing like a madman at everything that moves, however, to really kill the enemies, you are going to need to aim for the weak spot. These are indicated by red crystals, if you are not hitting these spots, you will be dead soon. When you destroy these crystals, they will fall on the ground.

Picking up these crystals enables you to deal more damage as it will upgrade the attack of your dagger. If you pick up enough of them, you will even unlock new attacks! Like homing daggers or even a shotgun blast! As there will be many enemies on your tail, it is important to be aware of how much space you have left. Spatial awareness is the key to saving your own skin.

To make sure that you stay alive, you can perform evasive abilities like jumping, if you do this at the right speed, you can fly across the level and even perform a double jump! This is going to take a lot of practice though, you better watch out, you can fall off the stage! As you live longer, more exotic monsters will come to ruin your life, and they are, strong, fast, and annoying!

Rating

I rate the gameplay of devil daggers with a 7.3
You can keep on trying, as these rounds are not very long, but your goal is to get better and live longer!

Sound and Graphics

Graphics

The graphics of devil dagger are simplistic and old school, but it was indeed fun to look at, just dark and creepy. As you barely see anything and then, suddenly there is this red glow, the next thing, there are either spiders or skulls right behind you. Or, if you survive longer, something worse!

Sound

The soundtrack is fairly simple but not annoying, as for the sound effects, you will be too occupied with not dying to even notice it!

Rating

I rate the sound and graphics of Devil Daggers with a 7.7.
Pew, pew, pew, I am shooting daggers!

What did I think after playing Devil Daggers?

This game was indeed, a lot more polished compared to other arena shooters, with a good balance of the enemies. You are going to need to be very aware of your surroundings, as more time passes, the place that you can safely stand, will decrease. It is best to keep moving!

While this game is difficult, you will get better as you play more rounds, it is based on pure skill! How much skill do you have? Do you have the guts to take on the enemies in the dark? I enjoyed going wild with my daggers, I am still going to need some more practice though!

Rating

I rate Devil Daggers with a 6.9 after playing.
It is time, to throw some daggers!

What are my personal thoughts about Devil Daggers?

While I did enjoy this game, it annoyed me that making screenshots did not work, or even making a video! No matter what I tried, I either got a weird screen or just, the black voide!

Rating

My personal Rating of Devil Daggers 6.4.

Shooting games where you can’t hide and can be hit everywhere is a no for me. Checking the reviews, it’s quite impressive it is extremely positive, it must be really good game for it’s genre.

Looks interesting. I would probably come back to play it once in a while to attempt the achievement and fail miserably every time.
