Introduction
Today we are going to look at a game called Battle Cats. It is your goal to amass a huge army of cats to invade the world. Yeah, I don’t understand it either, there is no real story. We will just go with it and make more cats to throw around the world. If you think about it, they have already won, there are so many cats!
What did I think before playing The Battle Cats?
I had no idea what kind of game this would be. Of course, I expected something with cats. Because dogs would be so strange. You do fight dog like creatures. It is your goal to collect different cats and defeat bases. But that is all I knew, I just, found this game accidentally. Let’s take a look at the Google Play Store.
The Google Play Store Page

It seems we have to command an army of cats, and it proves simple gameplay as you take over the world. We all want to take over the world and rule it, right? Why not use cats, you need to level up your cats to improve their power. There are also unique cats to collect. Among with powers to upgrade by using tons of cat food.
Rating
I rated The Battle Cats with a 6.8 before playing.
Gameplay
The gameplay starts pretty simple, you will have a hub, along with a world map, and it costs energy to stage an attack which while gradually be refilled. After you choose attack, you will be sent to a 2D map where on the left side you see the tower that you need to destroy. You can do so by sending cats to attack.
To gain more gold in battle, you just have to wait, but, we can upgrade these powers with cat food. For example, you will be able to hold more gold. In battle, you can also upgrade how fast you earn gold. Thus, you can send out more cats, there is a slight cooldown to make sure you cannot swarm the enemies with cats.
To get new cats, you simply need to progress the game, but you can also the capsule. You can get very rare cats, these are way stronger. When you clear levels or missions, you will gain experience points. You can use these experience points to level up your cats. But be careful, if you only take very strong cats into battle, you might find yourself lacking defense. Make sure to upgrade your powers along with your cats.
Rating
I rated the gameplay of The Battle Cats with a 7.2
While the game is fun, it not something new or innovative.
Sound and Graphics
Graphics
The graphics are very cartoony and some almost look hand drawn. To be fair, it looks, far too simple. But the simpleness does have its charm. I guess it depends on your taste.
Sound
The music is way too upbeat for my taste, and it never stops. There is also not much variation.
Rating
I rated the sound and graphics of The Battle Cats with a 6.1
While it can be fun and charming, it is a bit too simple.
What did I think after playing The Battle Cats?
While I can see how this game has a lot of potential, and it was fun. It does have to be your taste. The gameplay becomes repetitive quite fast, and you will just let cats waltz over the enemy over and over again. It is always fun to unlock new cats and see how they act in battle, but as these are expensive, you can better send an army of noob cats.
Rating
I rated The Battle Cats with a 6.7 after playing.
If you enjoy cats beating up towers, this can be fun.
What are my personal thoughts about The Battle Cats?
I think the name is a pun on the Battletoads, which vexes me, I also disliked the game quite a bit myself. Even thought, it has solid gameplay mechanics. This was, just, not for me.
Rating
My personal Rating of The Battle Cats is a 3.9
Not my thing.
