Introduction

We are once again delving into the world of Halo, but this time we are going to spin off from the main franchise! We are going to look at Halo Spartan Assault! This is a mobile game but also on consoles or even Steam! In this game you take on the role of certain Spartans as they take on missions, the view is from top down as you shoot your way through masses of enemies!

What did I think before playing Halo Spartan Assault?

Halo Spartan Assault mostly focuses on the adventures of Sarah Palmer and takes place between Halo 3 and Halo 4, I did not have much information about this game except that it is a top-down shooter. You will take on short missions to shoot up the Covenant! Since I did not have a lot of information about this game, I decided to go to the Steam page for more information!

The Steam page

The Steam page is not per se very good, but it does give you a basic breakdown of what to expect when you start playing this game! It is mostly that you will have assuming epic adventure across thirty missions! It is also confirmed that it takes place before Halo 4!

Rating

I rate Halo Spartan Assault with a 6.2 before playing.
It seems to me that this was just a simple spin-off with a few more Halo elements, I was excited to hear the music of this game though since that is something that Halo developers are good in!

Story

This game follows the events of Sarah Palmer as she engages with the Covenant that have ignored the cease fire from Halo 3. It is your job to take down the leader, Merg Vol and stop this faction of the Covenant!

Rating

I rate the story of Halo Spartan Assault with a 5.8
The story was not very good, but it propels the missions forward.

Gameplay

You will need to take on missions from a menu screen, before each mission you will have a screen where you can select equipment or abilities. There are also score boosters, damage boosters or even a better shield! However, you can not select these willy-nilly, you will need to complete missions for experience points!

The missions take place in small arcs, every mission has certain missions called assaults that you could complete for bonus experience. To gain more experience, you will need to perform well in your mission. If you perform well, you can get a good score and receive a gold medal!

Since this game is a top-down shooter, you will need to re-adjust your play style a little, but you need to be aggressive and fast to gain a good score! You will need to learn the missions inside out!

Rating

I rate the gameplay of Halo Spartan Assault with a 6.6
While the game is fun, the controls are quite awkward in some vehicles!

Sound and Graphics

Graphics

The graphics are just as you would expect from Halo, but a bit toned down due to it being a top-down shooter. There are many covenant enemies to kill! The vehicles are also fun to use, but hard to control!

Sound

The sound of Halo Spartan Assault is very good, it is exactly what you would expect from a Halo game, there are many soundtracks and sound effects to enjoy!

Rating

I rate the sound and graphics of Halo Spartan Assault with a 7.9!
It is almost more fun to listen to the soundtracks and look at the graphics instead of playing the game!

What did I think after playing Halo Spartan Assault?

We were mostly interested in fighting the Flood, which we saw in the trailer, and we had hoped it was a local co-op mode! However, it was online only, and thus we completely ignored that mode for the time that we were playing this game, however if you are into online play, you should check it out! This would have been a great game for local co-op!

This game was originally available on Mobile phones, you could buy credits for better weapons, but they would only last one mission. Luckily, in the console version this has been removed, and you can use your experience points! The better that you perform, getting more medals per mission, the more experience points that you will acquire!

Rating

I rate Halo Spartan Assault with a 6.4 after playing.
This is a fun game, but you could finish it one day, even if you get gold stars in each mission! Some of those missions can be though, however!

What are my personal thoughts about Halo Spartan Assault?

We did enjoy this game, but it was mostly a small game to enjoy between other games, it is not a major time investment as you can complete this game in one Sunday afternoon!

Rating

My personal Rating of Halo Spartan Assault is a 7.2
I am wondering what the second game in this spin off series has to offer!

At least this game doesn’t suffer from issues that plague other mobile games, like lootboxes, pay-to-win, and oh-so-many ads…

Great game, a fair review ..
Not something I would play hours of, I’m a Halo fan yes but this is more for “Hey I got an extra hour. I’ll have a quick go before I go.”
