Introduction

Today we are reviewing another Soul Calibur game, we are going back in time to review Soul Calibur 2. Off course, I played the game on the Gamecube for the guest character, Link! This game has an amazing arcade mode. And recently, I have been revisiting games of the past. This is one that is also on that list. I played this game a lot, but once again, I noticed, I was rusty. I will not be making a story as there is one in weapon mode, and the official story. It seemed better for me to just focus on the gameplay mechanics for arcade mode.

What did I think before playing Soul Calibur 2?

This game is known for smooth fighting mechanics, a boatload of characters, and no DLC characters. All of them can be unlocked by just playing the game. However, if you want to have Inferno as a playable character, you are going to need some cheat coded. The action replay is perfect for this. Otherwise, this character cannot be obtained. For more information, I am going to take a look at the fandom page.

The Fandom Page

https://soulcalibur.fandom.com/wiki/Soulcalibur_II
This page has all the information that you seek! Including information about the game mode on the map that is fictional and the official story behind the game. These things were always complicated in Soul Calibur. You can even find all the unlockable characters and customs. It is quite amazing how many characters there are to unlock! However, I just want to play as Link and beat up some enemies! He has the best lines in the game!

Rating

I rate Soul Calibur 2 with a 9.4 before playing!
Hiyaaah!

Gameplay

First up, we have arcade mode, select your character and started mashing those buttons if you have no clue what you are doing. Or you could enter training mode and learn some amazing combos. If you want to go for an easy kill, you should push someone out of the level. If you do not run into the hole yourself for the replay, well, that just sucks. It is one of the most funny things about the game!

There are also versus matches and time battles. These are perfect for honing your skills for the real deal. All characters can have different weapons and costumes. But, this game all about beating each other to a pulp! Why? Yeah, I don’t know, because soul edge, wants to eat your soul!

There is also an adventure mode, in which you can collect new weapons for a character, as well as unlock characters, if you are interested in that. In this mode, you travel across the world in a boatload of chapters, looking for people to kick their ass! While you are doing this, you will even gain experience points and level up. Maybe, I should try beating up people in real life for experience points! (please don’t do that, I am just kidding)

Rating

I rate the gameplay of Soul Calibur 2 with a 9.2.
Gotta beat ’em up!

Sound and Graphics

Graphics

While you can see that the graphics are older, I do enjoy the graphics of this game. As this game is almost 20 years old as I am writing this. It still amazes me, that they managed to achieve this already. And everyone was satisfied, now it is just, pimp it up some more! What is wrong with old school graphics? Nothing, that’s right!

Sound

The soundtracks are amazing, along with the voice acting. Every level has their own soundtrack. But, I have to say, Link has the best lines, Hiyaaah!

Rating

I rate the sound and graphics of Soul Calibur 2 with a 9.6.
You can even throw bombs at your opponents!

What did I think after playing Soul Calibur 2?

I have to admit, I am more of an arcade mode person. Just, jump in and start beating up people! Link has some decent moves to take out his opponents, but I was rusty on what the combinations were again. After a few battles, I remembered a lot of them. But executing them properly was still hard! Now, with what character, am I going to kick some ass next?

If you are less interested in just beating the crap out of someone, you can go to adventure mode and complete many chapters, along with side missions and what not! There are even many unlockables to find in this game. You van view these in the museum along with the weapon gallery!

Rating

I rate Soul Calibur 2 with a 9.5 after playing.
Link can get anywhere with that Ocarina, it is insane!

What are my personal thoughts about Soul Calibur 2?

While I did dislike Soul Calibur 6, I thoroughly enjoyed Soul Calibur 2! Why? Perhaps because it has less story, and it is just, jump into the fray and get battling!

Rating

My personal Rating of Soul Calibur 2 is a 9.1.
Link comes from a different world and just kills Inferno, sure, whatever!

Last Words

Pros

Cons

I am not sure, as it has been a very long time, but I thought Inferno was playable in the first game of this franchise!

Final Rating

9.4/10

Nice Review, unlocking most characters by playing should make a comeback, rather than buying them with dlc, but that would be close to impossible nowadays.

It is all about greed these days, money and greed, no longer is it about the fun that someone will feel when playing a game and achieving something!

Best Soul Caliber game in my opinion and I main Link like any game that has Link as a fighting character like Smash Bros. Link is just so well balanced, he’s fast, technical, strong, and mid to long range thanks to his sword and bow and arrows.

    Good review.
I think Soul Calibur 4 was the first game I bought for my PS3, it was pretty cool, had Darth vader and Yoda.

Oh, man, I haven’t played a Soul Calibur game in a long time. Always loved the idea of the cursed sword thing they had in their story lines. Link being in SC 2 is wonderful. :O
