Introduction
Today we are going to look at What the Golf. This sports game is, well not exactly a sports game. In this game, you will swing around many objects, most of them are not golf balls. This means that you might need to learn how to throw a horse through the obstacle course. All of the worlds have different themes and items to throw around. You will even learn how to sneak across cameras with a ball. Snake time! There are also levels that portray Super Mario or even Flappy bird. This is exactly the game you should play if you hate golf!

What the Golf has an overworld map where you can walk (roll?) around to find a multitude of worlds and levels. All the levels have multiple courses to play. There are also secrets and much more things to discover. This means you should roll into every nook and cranny! This review will not feature a story, I can’t find a story in this game. You are a ball (most of the time) visiting levels and you fight a computer?

What did I think about What the Golf before playing?

I was looking for another sports game to play but all the sports games looked so serious to me. Thus I started looking for something silly instead and that is when I found What the Golf. After finding this game I was determined to review this game! I quickly contacted the developer but after a week of no response, my hope fleeted. After some consideration, I decided to buy What the Golf myself but before I did that, I investigated the Steam page.

What the Golf
The Steam Page

The first thing that jumps to me on the Steam page is that this game is made by people who hate golfing. This sounded very odd to me but nonetheless, I soon learned this was a very weird game. Golf with a horse? Check! There are over 500 levels and many hours of gameplay. There is also a couch co-op and a create your own level system.

Rating

I rate What the golf with a 7.6 before playing.
The game does look fun but just for a small amount of time, not a huge time investment to complete all the worlds.

Gameplay
The gameplay in this game is very simple, you are a ball and you travel to many worlds. There are 10 worlds with all different themes. This means that you will also encounter different gameplay mechanics in each world.
In some worlds there are multiple themes, you will find space themes, sports themes, and many more themes. On the overworld map, you can find some levels that are hidden or even fake levels. Levels that you cannot reach yet need a special transformation usually found in the nearby area.

Every level can be completed three times to gain a crown flag. you will need these crown flags to collect treasures. To get the loot you must collect all crown flags in that themed world. Some of the loot can also be found randomly in secret areas.

Rating

I rate the gameplay of What the Golf with an 8.0.
You will find many different gameplay mechanics in each world. This is why I give What the Golf an 8 for the gameplay rating.

Sound and Graphics

Graphics
I like the style of What the Golf and it brings a huge array of assets to the field. All of the themes have different graphics and mechanics. This seems like it would take a huge amount of time to create all these assets. The last world and boss fight is very odd though.

Sound
There are many different soundtracks and sound effects but I like the flappy bird and Super Mario soundtracks the most. With this, you will certainly not get bored in What the Golf.

Rating

I rate the sound and graphics of What the Golf with an 8.5
I like that there are many different graphical themed worlds accompanied by different soundtracks.
