Introduction
Today we are going to look at a game that tries to clone Spore, or rip it off, or perhaps just use it as a template for a game. All I knew before was that this game had something to do with Spore, and I was ready to investigate! There does seem to be a slight story. Let’s see what this game has taken from Spore, and in what way it strays to an original game.
What did I think before playing War of Evolution?
Like I usually do, I was just browsing games on numerous places, while downloading another game that I will be reviewing soon, I came across a strange picture. The picture depicted a spore from well, Spore, it immediately got my attention. I soon learned people hate this game for being a Spore rip off. There has been nothing Spore related in many years, since it had not been ceased and desist yet, I decided to take a look at the Google Play Store.
The Google Play Store Page
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=and.onemt.pos&hl=en&gl=US
You can immediately see that they are goading you into playing this game by looking like Spore. I am fine with that, it is a valid strategy to emulate popular games to get people to play your game. I did notice some aspects that are not in Spore, something like tower defense and sidekicks to summon. Despite knowing, it had to with Spore, I had no idea what I was getting myself into.
Rating
I rated War of Evolution with a 6.7 before playing.
Is this a Spore clone? Is this a spiritual successor? I had no idea, there was only one way to find out, time to play this game.
Story
The story starts exactly like Spore, you need to survive as a cell and adjust to living as a being with no legs. I am not fucking kidding you, this is the exact intro from Spore, it even calls your cell a spore. But once you get to land, things take a drastic turn, it suddenly evolves into a kingdom management game and follows it own path, can you keep your kingdom afloat?
Rating
I rate the story of War of Evolution with a 5.5
The start gave me strange feelings, like I downloaded malware, that was not the case. If you never played Spore, which can be reasonable for the newer generations, then this won’t bother you as much, but you have to keep in mind, they stole the fucking intro from EA.
Gameplay
As I mentioned in the story aspect, the beginning has you as a cell to develop and climb onto land. In this stage you eat food and build your character how you want. Once you get on land, the gameplay does a 360 double backflip. As you explore land, you will need to unlock buildings and find a nest. There is simple combat as you take on beasties, and the dancing minigame from Spore is in it too.
When you have explored the land a bit, you will have a stronghold that needs to be upgraded and defended. This soon comes with summoning sidekicks. Yes, you need summoning crystals for this, I did not spend a single penny on this game, but I was able to summon plenty of sidekicks. There are legendary sidekicks, and they totally rule for the next part of this game. It soon turns into a tower defense game.
You will need to use your sidekicks to fight off the beasties that dare to challenge you. Once this is done, there are other tower defense games and you will unlock the world map. This is a massive map where your base will stand and there are many markers upon the map, along with other players, bandits, treasuries, void creatures and more.
You will have stamina to send three dispatches, all of them need other sidekicks. They will need minions to fight alongside them. These can be trained in various buildings, all your buildings can also be upgraded. You require food for upgrading and special items that you can gain while playing this game. While the gameplay mechanics are fairly good for a game that is on version 0.25, the graphics and soundtracks are another matter. There is also a skill tree to upgrade with seashells that your sidekicks can gather, events to join, PVP if you wish, and a lot more.

I rated the gameplay of War of Evolution with an 8.2
I have to say, I am not a big fan of kingdom management games, but this is early access and despite there not being a lot of story content yet, there is a lot to do here daily. You have many extra game modes already, like raids, adventure mode, a quest mode, a united forces modes and more.
Sound and Graphics
Graphics
The graphics are tough for me to rate. Most of the graphics, like the sidekicks, the parts you find and more are like a direct copy and paste from Spore. Even the character creator, despite that it has been updated to allow you to make insane and fun creatures. There is the original map, you have the skill tree. But the intro is exactly like Spore, I have to deduct a lot of rating points for this.
Sound
The soundtracks and sound effects are also clear copies from Spore. Despite being enjoyable, I have to detract some points for this.

I rated the sound and graphics of War of Evolution with a 6.0
Man, I just need Spore 2 and no kingdom management clone. It does have numerous players… That should tell people there are people who want more Spore.
What did I think after playing War of Evolution?
I have to say, I did enjoy this game and I managed to get my stronghold to lvl 16, and after that, there is just not much more content for the story. As in the chapters stop, probably since this is early access. There is still a lot to do and to upgrade, I also managed to collect a lot of the legendary sidekicks. You can upgrade them by summoning and getting idols, but these are also granted in events. All in all, if you like kingdom management and Spore, you will enjoy this game.
Rating
I rated War of Evolution with a 7.2 after playing.
Yes, it looks like Spore, yes, it starts like Spore, no it is nothing like Spore.
What are my personal thoughts about The War of Evolution?
I was kind of relieved and kind of sad it was not like Spore, this game left me in a mixed state. Did I like it? Yes, I think so, but I am not sure. However, if you don’t mind that this game takes the creatures and parts from Spore, and you like kingdom management, go right ahead!

My personal Rating of War of Evolution is 6.5

Hey this game falls under the catagory of gacha game they always include micro transaction in them it’s how they keep their game free by adding new characters or in this case spores. The drop rate is alright for this but in some games it’s like 0.8 or Something for rare characters. Good review :p.
I am glad you liked the review, yes, from what I have observed during gameplay, the rates are fair.
I thing It’s not for me
Thank you. I’ll pass on this one 😉
i’m not into mobile games at all
Interesting
the game is ok but i woudnt try to play it
I would prefer a better PC version
Maybe when it is later in development. This is something that happens regularly now for mobile games.
Aren’t these assets included in the game literally ripped from Spore? As I looked through the YouTube game play it does look like it.
Yes, while there are some original assets, a lot of them are ripped right from Spore.
Good review!
I Loved Spore back then and had a lot of fun with it. Even If the late game (space age) was weird. Here they seems to have taken a similar but different approach. Interesting but I am not happy with the microtransaction part.
You should not worry about the microtransaction part just yet. You don’t need it all as you get enough rewards.
