Introduction

Today we are going to look at a game played by Simone. One she invested many hours in and completed almost for 100%. I am talking about Assassin’s Creed Origins. Is this a fun game with some nifty assassinations, or is this a weaker game like Assassin’s Creed Odyssey? I have watched every minute of Simone playing this game and I will convey her thoughts and mine in this review. Time to do a deep dive!

What did Simone think before playing Assassin's Creed Origins?

While I was playing Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, Simone watched along with the early hours. She was playing another game at the time, but she wanted to play an Assassin’s Creed game as well. She chose this game and we both were wondering, is this game the same? Which game will come out stronger? Despite playing on the Xbox, we are going to check the Steam page for the best information.

The Steam Page

This game seemed like a new fresh start for the franchise. But we never played all the originals. My wife was interested in exploring Ancient Egypt along with the open world mechanics. It also seemed to have a great story, which is always important. You could play this game as one of the first ones since it will show you how the brotherhood came to be.

Rating

I rated Assassin’s Creed Origins with an 8.4 before playing.
This game seemed better compared to the one I was playing. There is only one true way of finding out if this game is better compared to the Odyssey game I played.

Story

The story takes place a long time before the Brotherhood was even a thing. It follows Bayek who is on a quest for revenge while not trying to lose himself. You quickly learn his child died by his hand as he tried to take down an order that wanted to rule all of Egypt, and after that, the world. Next to that, Greece and Rome are invading. Simply put, Ancient Egypt is going to hell and Bayek wants to fix it, but unbeknownst to him, people higher up are working against him.

Rating

I rate the story of Assassin’s Creed Origins with a 9.2
While the story starts slow, and it takes time to learn people’s motivations, it quickly becomes personal as you grow stronger to take down threats you never imagined.

Gameplay

The gameplay is different compared to Odyssey, you do have weapons to equip. But, there is no real armor to find or sets to engrave. You do have neat costumes! Instead, for upgrading, you need to level up, which is more balanced compared to Odyssey, and it is not impossible to reach max level. With the DLC, it is possible to reach level 55 before finishing the final quests if you do everything. You can even keep leveling to gain ability points.

There are three skill trees and at the end of them you can upgrade your damage. One is for traps, one is for bows, and another one is for swords. But you can also use axes, blunt weapons and other kinds of weapons. Another way to upgrade your character, next to leveling up and finding better weapons, you can hunt animals. Their pelt can be used to upgrade melee damage, increase health, and other factors.

Sneaking is a big factor in this game, the best weapon for that is a predator bow. If possible, one that increases damage from long distances. This allows you to take down enemies from a very long distance. You can also sneak closer and assassinate them. If you are having trouble killing them with one assassination blow, you can upgrade your hidden blade. Now for the open world, there is a lot to explore, quests to find, bandits to rob and more. I am going to dig deeper in the graphics.

While there are microtransactions, you get enough free credits to buy the full map. Which was a massive plus! There is also a merchant named Reda, she has a daily quest to get items sold in the store. You can also purchase chests for gold, normal gold that you can get in the game! And the drop rate is actually good. Simone was getting special weapons, mounts, and costumes. This actually removes the need to use any of the microtransactions. If you actually buy and use them in this game, it is kind of dumb. There are many other fun gameplay mechanics in Assassin’s Creed Origins. For example, your eagle can scout ahead, it becomes more overpowered as you unlock more fast travel points.

Rating

I rated the gameplay of Assassin’s Creed Origins with an 8.7
There are some minor flaws like the last upgrades not doing much, or the DLC having difficulty spikes. Or the fact you cannot wander into each are at the beginning due to areas having levels. Luckily, there is a level scaling option!

Sound and Graphics

Graphics

The graphics are actually better compared to the newer games. While there are some glitches, which was bound to happen with a massive world, most of it is great. There are places where you can rest and enjoy the view, this even grants you a new ability point. What I found both great and disappointing were the large deserts. These were mostly empty, which is understandable since this is true in real life.

Sound

The soundtracks are good and did not disappoint. The voice acting is on par too. One funny detail is that when Bayek has a costume that covers his mouth, he talks in a muffled voice. Despite the good voice acting, the NPC’S love to repeat themselves. Quite a lot.

Rating

I rated the sound and graphics of Assassin’s Creed Origins with a 7.0
While I would love to give this game a higher rating, the repeating lines got annoying over time.

What did Simone think after playing Assassin's Creed Origins?

She truly enjoyed the game. There was so much to explore and the DLC was great. After a lot of time, she managed to explore every map. After everything was said and done, it was kind of tough finding a new game that can live up to this kind of enjoyment. At the end of the game, she got overpowered and loved to plow through the enemies or assassinate them all in quick succession.

If you are looking for a fun open world game with some RPG elements, then this might just be the game for you. There is a lot of freedom in exploring every inch of the map. Most of the time, exploring is rewarded. There is even a very strange Chocobo/Camel fusion in this game.

Rating

I rated this game with an 8.8 after playing.
I loved to watch Simone play this game!

Last Words

Pros

Cons

If you are looking for a fun Assassin’s Creed game with open world elements, where you can also level up, then this might just be the game for you. I loved to see Simone enjoy this game, and since I have seen the whole game, I won’t be playing it myself.

The Final Rating

8.4/10

I’m about half way through this one. Haven’t tried real DLC content yet, though. I’m having fun, especially with the little investigations. But yeah… Still no competitions to 2 and 3 ^^
