Introduction

Today we are going to tap to the beat, what has this game to offer you? A lot of music to start with, you do need to unlock them however as you level up. New songs are added to this game recently. There is a heavy paywall on this game, that is, if you want all the songs. Or even take part in the events! This is also one of the reasons, that I dropped this game directly after playing it for the review! There is, once again, no story in this mobile game, they really need to put in some effort to make a story in mobile games.

What did I think before playing Beatstar?

This game was not even on my radar, as I am not that much into rhythmic games! However, my wife brought it to my attention, she is more into rhythmic games, she also knows how to make me play a game, just try it once she said. It was not long until I started playing this game for a review. However, I did not have a lot of information yet, I went to the play store!

The Playstore page

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.spaceapegames.beatstar&hl=en&gl=US
The slogan is kind of off, touch your music. However, you are tapping the notes on the beat! It also seems there will be new songs to add to your library. There is not much on how much money you need to actually pay to play this game. My wife had told me, there are no second chances, every failure means you will need to try from the beginning, unless you pay.

Rating

I rate Beatstar with a 7.7 before playing.
What worried me the most was the paywall in this game.

Gameplay

The game starts by asking what kind of music you like, this has no impact on the gameplay whatsoever. At the beginning of the game, you will only have a few songs to play. As you level up, you will gain new songs. It is your job to tap on the beat, if you fail, you will need to try again. There are dailies to complete, and free gems to claim!

There are many different songs to unlock. As you level up, harder songs will be unlocked. It goes all the way up to extreme! These songs are only for the best of the best! As you unlock more songs, you will need to earn enough stars to level up. If you are good enough, you will even unlock medals! There is not much more to this game, just keep tapping!

Rating

I rate the gameplay of Beatstar  with a 5.0
The paywall in this game is too big!

Sound and Graphics

Graphics

The graphics are minimalistic, there is not much to say about the graphics, each song has a different outlay and that is about it. The perfect bar has a different color in each song.

Sound

There is a lot of music in this game, there is no way you should mute it, unless you can tap on the beat while having the sounds muted. The soundtracks are good if you like music!

Rating

I rate the sound and graphics of Beatstar with an 8.0
The music is just as if you are playing Spotify, except now you play on the beat.

What did I think after playing Beatstar?

While I had a lot of fun while playing this game, I kept walking against the paywall, the adverts, and more problems. Want to join the event? Pay! Want more songs? Pay? Want to spin a wheel for more music? Pay! This game has a lot of great features, if you pay, that is!  This is also my wife stopped playing.

It seemed that a lot of songs were still missing, it might be best to play this game after a lot of updates, after which it will have much more songs for you! Leveling up takes a lot of effort, though, which you need to do to gain access to more songs. If your favorite song happens to be locked behind a high level, you are looking at a big pay wall.

Rating

I rate Beatstar with a 6.2 after playing.
There is a huge pay wall in this game, it will keep you from enjoying this game.

What are my personal thoughts about Beatstar

While this game started out great, it turned sour very fast! There were not enough of my favorite songs, the few that were, had been locked behind a pay wall. I would rather boot up Spotify!

Rating

My personal Rating of Beatstar is a 3.4.
There was just a huge pay wall blocking me from enjoying this game.

This game just seems like an inferior version of Tap Tap Revenge and other, better rhythm games…it’s a shame what’s become of most mobile games, with so many paywalls and ads.

Yeah, it was in screenshot of the week,
      Problem is the name,
      Beat Star
      Beat Stars
      Beatstars
      BeatStar
Still no clue which site or name is correct lol

I read the title as *Beastars* and, for a moment, thought that you were reviewing the manga/anime series.

Paywalls paywalls everywhere… not worth it. There are better rhythm games without all the monetization.

I like the idea to listen to cool music and play games … but to play the music … I don’t know … I used to play Audiosurf in my youth but even there I was not very hooked.
