Introduction
Today we will be looking at the DLC of Blue Fire, the Void of Sorrows! This DLC is mostly made out of having to complete more voids to unlock an even larger void! While there are not any new gameplay mechanics in the form of new spirits, there are quite some new mechanics within the voids! You will also encounter some new monsters! There is barely any story in this DLC of Blue Fire, thus I will not feature a story in this review.
What did I think before playing Blue Fire Void of Sorrows?
I did not know what to expect when I started this DLC, but it was completely free, which makes it very attractive! There would be mostly new voids to play, which I was very interested in, but even harder voids seems to be quite useless to me. It might have been better to work on a Blue Fire 2! There was not a good page for more information, thus we cannot look at information beforehand. All we have is the normal Steam Page! There is an update page, but it is already buried somewhere deep in the patch list, this would have been a good opportunity to make their own DLC Steam Page!
The Steam Page
https://store.steampowered.com/app/1220150/Blue_Fire/
As you can see, this is just the normal information, however there is an update that states that the DLC adds 16 brand-new voids that are even harder. I did not look forward to this at all, but nonetheless, I pushed forward to start playing this DLC! How bad could it be to play a few extra voids?
Rating
I rate Blue Fire – Void of Sorrow with a 5.5 before playing.
There is not a decent page for this DLC, and the even harder voids did not sound fun at all.
Gameplay
The gameplay is quite similar to the original gameplay, you search a new area in the Firekeep that opens up after the main game, this means that you will need to defeat the Dark Queen. Thus, you should have a very good grip on what the game has to offer before you even start off with the DLC that Blue Fire has to offer to you. It might be a good idea to use your best weapon and spirits!
If you have missed any of the original voids in the original game, you can also find them in the DLC area, I do not know why though, this is a quite weird decision that the developers made. The voids have different gameplay mechanics compared to the original game. These voids are much harder! The New elements mean that you will have acquired spirits from the original game, but there are no new spirits to collect.
Rating
I rate the gameplay of Blue Fire – Void of Sorrow with a 6.7.
While the gameplay is still fun, it is just new voids with more ways to torture you! There are no new spirits or abilities to help you navigate these hellish voids either, which is a shame!
Sound and Graphics
Graphics
The graphics of the Blue Fire Void of Sorrow DLC are on par with the original game, however there are some new monsters that make an intro, along with obstacles that you will need to pass. Next to that, it is not something special.
Sound
The soundtracks, along with the sound effects are almost identical to that of the original game, thus no change for the sound department!
Rating
I rate the sound and graphics of Blue Fire – Void of Sorrow DLC with a 6.8
I think the developers should have added more new items, monsters or soundtracks with the DLC!
What did I think after playing Blue Fire - Void of Sorrows?
I did not have a great time when playing this DLC, the voids were quite difficult and this made me lose interest, while I was able to complete the voids eventually, it also means I left open the game quite a lot since I did not want to start over. This means that I have a lot of hours on Steam.
The story was also non-existing, which means that this DLC feels like a glorified side quests with just many options to go through.
Rating
I rate Blue Fire Void of Sorrows with a 5.5 after playing.
If you want extremely hard voids, you can find them in this DLC!
What are my personal thoughts about Blue Fire- Void of Sorrow?
I did not have fun with this DLC at all, all I could see were difficult voids as far as the eye can see with not ability upgrades or new spirits!
Rating
My personal Rating of Blue Fire – Void of Sorrows is a 5.5.
Last Words
Pros
- Play new voids in the Blue Fire DLC, your reaction time will be tested!
- Face off with new monsters in the expanded Firekeep area!
- Use all your spirits and weapons from the original game!
Cons
- Blue Fire Void of Sorrows DLC does not add much to the graphic compartment
- The DLC of blue Fire feels like a glorified side quest
- There are no new spirits to try out for the new voids
- There is not a real story in the Void of Sorrows
If you are looking for a fun expansion to Blue Fire, and you do not have any money to part with, this free DLC is perfect for you, I hope you like voids that literally stress you out!

Good review! Too bad there is no story. Guess there is more of the same but without substance.
I didin’t see for DLC on Steam. Its full edition?
All is in the base game 🙂
Honest review!
I suppose opinions on difficulty can be somewhat subjective, but it’s a shame to hear the DLC adds little besides from new and greater difficulties. I would still be interested in the main game regardless and it is nice that you don’t have to pay for the added difficulty, nor do the new voids seem to be required to progress through the main game.
The DLC voids are not required to complete the game at all! Luckily it is free!
Based on your review, I think I’ll pass on this DLC, even if it’s free.
Additional content, even for free, that’s great! But did it really had to be made so hard?
Apparently!
maybe i should play something easier, like dark souls
Haha, Dark Souls is indeed easy if you practice enough!
Thank you for your honest review. Your rating is not good, but if the game was not bad, it would be worth trying because it was free.
You are welcome!
DLCs are rarely worth it, most often than not they are just easy cash grabs.
Luckily this one is free, otherwise it would have been a cash grab!
Nice and Honest review!
You are welcome!
I take this review as an advice against purchasing the DLC, though I am looking forward to play the base game as I already purchased it via bundles(had to giveaway some on Steamgifts.com).
I hope that you enjoy the base game!
good review
Another Pro would be that it’s a free additional content, which is rare nowadays :p
Yeah, that is true!
