Introduction

Today we are going to check out the beginning of a classic franchise, off course we are going to see where Doom started, and most importantly did this game age well? The classic Doom is from 1993, back when looking up and down in an FPS game was still, a very unknown thing for Doom. Ah, the good old days when you could snipe a demon with a shotgun from the other side of the base, all you needed was a straight line, no matter if the demon is above or below you. But, what else makes this game great? There is only one way to find out, we need to review this game! We will not do a story section for this review, since this game is all about blowing up demons, and not about the story!

What did I think before playing Doom 1?

Off course, like many other people, I have played Doom 1, but I played it on the floppy disks, I believe it was a four set and my brother arranged them for me, I am unsure how he got them, but he told me, they were rare. Sadly, I have lost these floppy disks. But luckily, you can play Doom 1 on Gamepass these days. That is also where I played it on the PC. For more information we went to the Steam Page!

The Steam Page

The first thing that we see is off course, that this game also includes episode 4, which is amazing. While some kids were warned that this game was too demonic when I was young, my parents did not really bother at all. I seem to have grown up, I don’t think that I worship the devil, instead, I will blow him up with my rocket launcher! I am glad to see they kept the original visuals but did polish them a bit, I mean, games like this are just insanely beautiful!

Rating

I rate Doom 1 with a 9.7 before playing.
Time to blow up some demons!

Gameplay

The gameplay of Doom 1 is fairly simple, you run around and shoot demons, however some of these demons, rather most of them can also shoot back at you. These would be rather dangerous as they can aim very well. You will start out with only the pistol but as you go through the levels, you will find bigger guns. My favorite is like almost always, the shotgun!

You will have to look carefully for secrets, these will hold armor and health, and many times’ ammo as well. Without ammo, you will not be killing any demons, without armor you are going to take the full blow of hits, and without health you will be very dead! Some of the secrets are buttons that need to be timed well, it is easier if you have the option to always run on. This game does not mind throwing many baddies at you at once!

There are four episodes to play, and while going through the levels you might get lost, luckily this game has a map, it even shows what door needs which key card. If you are lucky, you might even find an area map, but these are very well hidden! You will really need to look in every nook and cranny to find these!

I rate the gameplay of Doom 1 with a 9.6
A good old classic game that will keep you on your toes!

Sound and Graphics

Graphics

The graphics of Doom 1 are superb, they have aged extremely well. While it is clear, this game is from another era, these kinds of graphics are top-notch! You can clearly see all kinds of blood and gore! Or even the corpse getting squished by a door!

Sound

The soundtracks will keep you on your toes while you keep running around like a maniac to avoid the aliens. The sound effects are amazing as well, splash goes the blood!

Rating

I rate the sound and graphics of Doom 1 with a 9.9.
Doom 1 has amazing graphics and soundtracks that have aged very well.

What did I think after playing Doom 1?

I had a lot of fun when Playing Doom 1, the shotgun is very useful, and I like to blow up the demons, it is best to kill them right under a door. Let that door smash their corpses! There is a huge variety in demons, and as you continue with the other episodes, you will come across more of them. The levels are also very fun to zoom through, the map makes it bearable to get lost!

It is insane how the bullets will be flying around you. Around each corner, a demon might be lurking, but behind your secret doors might open! Who knows, there suddenly might be a huge ambush if you push a button! You always need to be ready for an ambush, or you will get swarmed and destroyed!

Rating

I rate Doom 1 with a 9.8 after playing,
It is insane how much fun this game is, there is only one thing to do, review Doom 2!

What are my personal thoughts about Doom 1?

This is truly a game that brings me back to the core of first-person shooter games. The insane speed and reflexes that you need are high, back when Doom was at the top of the list. Before all the weird and strange new gadgets got added!

Rating

My personal Rating of Doom 1 is a 9.7.
Shoot those demons down!

To this day, I still hear of new maps and mods being made of this classic and timeless game. Even better, it’s still widely available on storefronts like Steam, unlike other games like the original Sims.

I took it up after 25 years lol. I never finished it in my early days, although we used cheats back then. We might have got stuck at the part where we had to die, though. 😛

Just played this game pretty recently and I can confirm that it holds up really well! It’s just shooter action at its finest! 😀
