Initial thoughts

My wife and I have seen this movie many times, and we still find ourselves enjoying every rewatch. Despite knowing the story inside out, the excitement and wonder it brings never fades. Especially since we both love dinosaurs, and they look spectacular in this movie!

Enjoyment

Plot summary

I am not going to twist or turn it, Jurassic Park follows a group of scientists, a lawyer, and two kids as they visit a dinosaur theme park. This is where things go terribly wrong when the park’s security system fails, letting loose a host of prehistoric predators (dinosaurs). Chaos and terror ensue as they try to survive against the dinosaurs.

Was the movie fun?

Absolutely! It’s a rollercoaster ride of thrilling action sequences and jaw-dropping dinosaur encounters.

One of the most fun aspects of the movie is knowing that the famous T-Rex scene caught the kids by surprise—their screams were completely real! This adds an authentic layer to an already tense narrative.

Emotional impact

The fear and tension are palpable throughout, especially during key moments like the T-Rex chase and the Velociraptor scenes. It also offers a sense of awe and wonder, especially with the introduction of the Brachiosaurus. I cannot believe this movie was made in 1993.

Rating for Enjoyment

After thinking about all the aspects this movie has to give for enjoyment, emotional impact, and other factors, I decided to give the enjoyment section of this movie review, an 10.
This movie certainly falls into the top 10 of best sci-fi movies ever.

Pacing and audience

Pacing of the movie

The pacing of Jurassic Park is masterfully handled, with a perfect balance between moments of calm exploration and intense action. The tension builds steadily, leading to several nail-biting scenes. (Even though everyone by now knows how the movie ends.)

The movie flows smoothly from one moment to the next, maintaining a solid rhythm that remains engaging.

What audience is targeted?

It’s perfect for fans of adventure, sci-fi, and family-friendly thrillers. Both kids and adults can enjoy the spectacle and the suspense. Just don’t get eaten by the dinosaurs!

Script and dialogue

The script is sharp, with memorable lines like “Life finds a way” and well-timed humor that lightens the tension at just the right moments. Like the lawyer on the restroom that gets eaten. I mean, no one likes lawyers anyway.

What message does this movie instill?

The film explores themes of nature’s unpredictability, the dangers of playing God, and the ethical responsibility of science. And how playing God usually bites you in the… behind.

Rating

After some consideration, thinking over the dialogue and the scenes, I give the pacing and audience section a rating of 9.
All in all, this movie was great for its time, and if it had been made today, in the same way, it might have been the best movie ever.

Graphic style

Quality of graphics and art direction

Outstanding, with both CGI and practical effects that blend seamlessly to create a believable prehistoric world on Isla Nublar.

Rating

It took me some time to give the graphics and art style of this movie a good rating. But after considering a lot, I decided to give it a 10.
Dinosaurs are awesome!

Sound and music

Music score and how it contributed to the movie

John Williams’ iconic score is nothing short of magnificent. The music contributes greatly to the film, enhancing both the awe-inspiring moments and the heart-pounding tension. The acting was excellent, especially from Jeff Goldblum and Sam Neill, whose performances helped ground the film’s fantastical elements in realism.

The music perfectly complements the film, evoking wonder, terror, and adventure all in equal measure.

Acting and lines

The cast delivered memorable performances, with witty and believable dialogue, particularly from Jeff Goldblum’s character, Ian Malcolm. (Yes, he is my favorite actor for good reasons.)

Rating

After a lot of consideration, I rated the sound and music section with a 9.
Amazing performances all around!

Personal experiences favorite scene

My favorite scene has to be when the Gallimimus dinosaurs are chased by the T-Rex. It encapsulates perfectly the sense of awe, adventure, and danger that Jurassic Park is trying to set for the narrative. The combination of suspense, action, and special effects made this scene unforgettable, also, the T. Rex runs very fast!

Rating

My own personal rating of this movie is a 9.
That T. Rex animatronic is terrifying to behold!

Last words

Cons

Jurassic Park remains a cinematic masterpiece, combining thrilling action, groundbreaking effects, and compelling characters. It’s a film that continues to entertain and inspire, even after countless rewatches. Whether you’re a first-time viewer or revisiting it, it’s an unforgettable experience.

I liked always retro movies, especially 90s. i have few liked movies in 2000s too. This movie represents our historical evolution in same time.

  2. Ilan Vertone

I think I’ve only watched Jurassic Park once as a little kid, and I don’t remember anything about it! XD

Considering how good it seems to be, maybe I should find some time to watch it! 🙂

  3. FranckCastle

I still didn’t watch it in its entirety… (watched some scenes in class)
Are you sure you aren’t biased because there are dinosaurs? Or should we consider that you are being even more critical because of higher dino-standards? 👀

    1. Delicious Bacon

Hahahah, no bias for sure! Just objective criticism. XD

By the way, I still remember how we used to tape record these movies on a VRC when they played on the TV back in the days lol. We’d be ready when the commercials come so we stop and resume the recording. XD

Not biased at all, you have to realize this is also a movie that set world records, but it had flaws, sadly, the sequels did not improve.

  4. Avatar

Many people are fascinated by dinosaurs, much like Ark is popular.

My memory has faded considerably, so I may have to revisit it.🐑

How strange, i was always since child interested about dinosaurs, read many books, magazines, local collectable encylopedias like magazines about them and others stuff like that and i never seen this movie. Of course i heard about it, i always knew it was directed by Spielberg but somehow never watched it, even probably never seen it by accident during zipping of channels to stop and watch, strange 😉 I also know there was game released based on this movie, maybe even more then one, not played too. But i watched “Denver, the Last Dinosaur” as i child lol, it had great theme btw. And i admire dinosaurs 🙂 You know what, i will look for this movie and watch it 😉 Maybe i have seen it (because i know i watched some movies with dinosaur action or fragments) but not remembering it, who knows 😛 Thanks for reviews and suggestion 😉

This is one of the films from the 90s that has aged well, thanks to the genius and image of Steven Spielberg.
This film has a cult following thanks to the special effects that revolutionised the world of cinema at the time.
It’s a masterpiece that doesn’t bore you for a single second.

  7. Avatar

In my opinion the sequels had trouble to create a similar feeling thank the one from the first movie. The characters were sometimes a bit Strange but all quite likeable.

This will forever be one of my very feavorite movies. Those mechatronics they used make it so watchable even today since they look so much better than any CGI. I watched them for the first time only like 10 years ago, so I do not have that nostalgia factor and I love movies with good effects… and I still totally loved this one (All three originals actually… I even enjoy the new ones… I know, people love to hate on them, but I had a ton of fun 😀 )

  9. Nicole

I’ve never completely seen this movie, I only remember a few scenes, so it would be cool to rewatch! The CGI animations are pretty good considering the time! I really like how the story is based on science needing to be practiced ethically and that playing around too much, especially by being greedy and turning their sanctuary into an amusement park, can have dire consequences! 😮

This part (ironically) sounds a bit ethically wrong 😆 “The famous T-Rex scene caught the kids by surprise—their screams were completely real!”

  10. Avatar

I’ve never watched a Jurassic Park movie before, but thanks to this review I might watch this movie soon, because I love nature and history, and you rated it 9+ so it must be good. Thanks for the review!
