Introduction

Today we are going to check out a RuneScape inspired idle game named Melvor Idle. It is a unique idle game that caught my attention with its promising blend of role-playing elements and idle mechanics. As a fan of both genres, I was eager to dive into this pixelated world of adventure and progression. There is only an absent story with lore and books, but no narrative at all, thus there will not be a story section in this review.

What did I think before playing Melvor Idle?

Before playing, I was intrigued by the positive buzz surrounding Melvor Idle within the gaming community. The concept of an idle game with deep RPG elements seemed appealing, but I wondered if it could truly deliver a satisfying experience without sacrificing the core aspects of both genres. My anticipation was cautiously optimistic, and I entered the game with an open mind. Without further ado, I went to check out the Steam Page.

The Steam Page

The Steam page provided a comprehensive overview of Melvor Idle’s features, showcasing a vast array of skills, monsters, and a promising progression system. The pixel art style added a nostalgic touch, reminiscent of classic RPGs. The overwhelmingly positive reviews further heightened my expectations, setting the stage for an engaging experience.

Rating

I rated Melvor Idle with an 8.2 before playing.
I always liked RuneScape, I also like idle games. This seemed like a great game!

Gameplay

Melvor Idle’s gameplay is where it shines. The game seamlessly integrates idle mechanics with a vast skill system, providing a sense of accomplishment even when not actively playing. It is handy to note that unless you use mods, you can only AFK for 24 hours. This means you do need to check with the game.

The diverse range of skills, activities, and monsters to engage with keeps the gameplay fresh and rewarding. The progression system is well balanced, thus encouraging strategic decision making. You will need many skills to get further with another skill, this will lead you down a rabbit hole, most likely into a new addiction.

If you enjoyed RuneScape, then you know there are pets, these are also in this game. They all give different bonuses. A fun thing is, that almost all the items from RuneScape are in this game, if you wanted a RuneScape without walking, then I think you might have found what you are looking for.

The great thing that I love about this game is the fact that it has no microtransactions so everyone is on the same playing field. I havent seen idle game like this beforehand.

Yep, it feels like 4X game. Or some of those old browser games before idle games were mainstream – where you’d click your stuff and go away until your jobs get done.
