Introduction

Today we are going to look one ugly game, but, it wants to be ugly! In the expansive world of mobile gaming, where my quest for an entertaining Action RPG is relentless, Polygon Fantasy emerged as a curious contender. What initially caught my eye was its intentionally offbeat graphics, hinting at a unique game style that promised to redefine the boundaries of fun and excitement. Intrigued by this unconventional approach, I dived in to uncover the gameplay mechanics of this game!

What did I think before playing Polygon Fantasy?

Continuing my quest for the ultimate mobile Action RPG, Polygon Fantasy sparked my curiosity. As I delved into its promising features, I wondered if it could truly stand out among its competitors. There are many things that could make this game good, or bad, for my first impression, I went to the Google Play Store Page!

The Google Play Store Page

Upon viewing the Google Play Store page, the intentionally crude graphics of Polygon Fantasy intrigued me. Despite their apparent lack of polish, I was eager to uncover the game’s hidden gems beyond the visual surface. I mean, fast-paced action is always a win for me, if done right!

Rating

I rated Polygon Fantasy with a 6.9 before playing.
While it looked fun, I wondered what the gameplay would be like.

Story

The narrative woven into Polygon Fantasy unfolds in a realm where ancient prophecies collide with futuristic landscapes. You step into the shoes of a reluctant hero, thrust into a conflict that spans dimensions. The plot centers around an otherworldly artifact, the Prism of Eternity, coveted by both celestial beings and malevolent forces.

Rating

I rate the story of Polygon Fantasy with a 5.0
The story felt a bit too generic for me, it is always the same.

Gameplay

At its core, the game introduces a dynamic combat system where multiple skills empower players to craft their unique playstyle. This aspect injects a refreshing dose of creativity, allowing for strategic combinations that can turn the tide of battle. The potential for diversity in combat is a definite high point.

However, the luster fades when confronted with the game’s monetization strategy. Upgrades, essential for meaningful progression, come at a steep real-money cost. This not only hampers the natural flow of the game but also raises questions about the developers’ commitment to a fair and enjoyable player experience.

The abundance of ads further mars the gaming experience, disrupting the flow of exploration and combat. The incessant interruptions create a sense of frustration, turning what could be an immersive adventure into a jarring series of pauses.

The game’s difficulty level, unfortunately, leans towards the easy side, diminishing the sense of accomplishment that comes with overcoming challenges. This lack of a substantial hurdle can leave players craving a more engaging and strategic combat experience.

On a positive note, the skill system, while potent, teeters on the edge of being overpowered. This can be a double-edged sword, providing moments of exhilaration but potentially diminishing the satisfaction derived from skillful play.

Rating

I rated the gameplay of Polygon Fantasy with a 4.0
While I really want to give this game a decent rating, as it does have some strong suits, the microtransactions, and the need to buy countless items are just, a no go for me!

Sound and Graphics

Graphics

The intentionally subpar graphics of Polygon Fantasy left me perplexed. Whether a deliberate choice or not, the visual elements seemed to align with the game’s name. Despite the unconventional aesthetics, the overall experience was passable. Unfortunately, exploring all available companions or heroes came at a hefty real-money cost, which I did not want to pay.

Sound

The sound and soundtracks of Polygon Fantasy were more grating than entertaining. Instead of enhancing the gaming experience, the auditory elements became a source of irritation, disrupting my immersion in the virtual world.

Rating

I rated the sound and graphics of Polygon Fantasy with a 6.6
The sound is bad, and the graphics are supposed to be bad. This game has me perplexed and bewildered!

What did I think after playing Polygon Fantasy?

Polygon Fantasy, despite its initial allure, swiftly transformed into a gaming experience that left me disheartened and detached. As the hours accumulated, the game’s shortcomings became increasingly evident, overshadowing any initial sparks of enjoyment.

The gameplay, once promising, evolved into a monotonous cycle of energy draining missions, literal and figurative. Each demanding a toll of both time and patience. The decision to attach an ad to every mission became an incessant reminder that my engagement was a means to an end. A constant plea for attention in exchange for fleeting rewards, just so they can fill their pockets!

The companions, integral to the gameplay, proved to be more disposable than dynamic. Their frailty and the exorbitant cost of acquiring better alternatives only accentuated the game’s relentless push towards in-app purchases. What began as a cooperative journey with a companion quickly devolved into a push to pay more to get an actual companion.

The skills, touted as empowering tools for players, revealed themselves to be more of a crutch than a strategic asset. The overpowering nature of these abilities diminished the satisfaction derived from skillful play, rendering encounters less about strategy and more about the brute force of upgraded skills. Which also costs real money to force, or wait for hours.

The unbalanced enemy stats further disrupted any semblance of a fair challenge, eroding the sense of accomplishment that should accompany overcoming formidable foes. Polygon Fantasy, in its pursuit of retaining player interest, inadvertently diluted the essence of accomplishment, leaving each triumph feeling hollow. All in all, pay to win in its purest form!

Rating

I rated Polygon Fantasy with a 3.3 after playing.
It really sucked that it was just, pay this, or pay that! Want to upgrade your amazing new set item? Pay for upgrade materials since there is no other way to get them, this whole game is just a hollow shell.

What are my personal thoughts about Polygon Fantasy?

My experience with Polygon Fantasy evolved from curiosity to disappointment. The constant barrage of ads, coupled with paywalls hindering gameplay progression, left me relieved when I finally put an end to my time with the game.

Rating

My personal Rating of Polygon Fantasy is a 2.5
Damn those massive pay walls!

After playing some polygon style games from Alda Games (it’s a Czech indie game developer!) I always thought what if they made an ARPG game with such styled graphics, I’m surprised they actually made it. But it doesn’t look like they got it right in this case.

Nooo, another game plagued with microtransactions… and ADS! Even when games have good game play and core things like sounds and controls, being loaded with microtransactions (pay to win ones) and ads makes it sound like a bad sandwich – good filling, but stale bread.
