Introduction

Today we are going to look at Sonic forces, is this a game that you should play? In this game you barely play as Sonic, you will mostly take the role of a custom-made character. There are many different things to unlock to make it a completely weird character. It even shows up in cut scenes! You need to abuse this system off course!

What did I think before playing Sonic forces?

There are not many Sonic games that I have reviewed yet, as I was looking through the games that I wanted to review, I saw I still needed to finish Sonic forces. It had been very long time since I had played, thus I decided to play it again. All that I remembered was that you would to make your own character. Since I did not know much about this game anymore, I checked the Steam Page!

The Steam Page

The reviews are mixed, I was wondering why, the Steam page was not very helpful. It seems that Doctor Eggman is at it once again with a new creation called Infinite. Will you join the uprising with a new custom-made hero and stop him while taking back the world? There seem to be thirty different stages for you to complete, most of them are not with Sonic. There are also levels with old school Sonic.

Rating

I rate Sonic Force with a 6.4 before playing.
This game seems like a mediocre game at best.

Story

The story starts with Sonic getting captured while Doctor Eggman takes over the world. It is not long before a new hero, your custom character, rises up to stop Doctor Eggman.

Rating

I rate the story of Sonic Forces with a 5.5
It is always the sill same thing with these games, stop Eggman and save the world!

Gameplay

The gameplay is pretty straightforward, as you can just choose a level from the hub, and you will get a character chosen for you. Most of the time you will play as your avatar, but there are levels with Sonic, old school Sonic, or even duos! As you make your way through levels, you will find red coins, these are needed to unlock new secrets.

The boss fights in this game are pretty weak and easy to rush through. The levels are harder, however if you use the right equipment for your hero, you will also clear those easily. I enjoyed the fire breathing wispon the most, as this one ripped through the enemies with ease. The wispon is not available for levels with Sonic.

As you complete levels, you will also complete achievements. These achievements will give you new equipment or even new wispons to use! Some of the achievements are easy to complete, while others may be ridiculously hard!

Rating

I rate the gameplay of Sonic Forces with a 6.1.
This was a very mediocre Sonic game.

Sound and Graphics

Graphics

While the graphics are good, the cutscenes feel horribly crafted. It just makes no sense, as most of the story feels like gibberish. The hero that you can make is fun to see in the cutscenes, though! Especially if you make it a weird one!

Sound

The soundtracks are what you would expect from a Sonic game, mostly fast-paced. The sound effects were just right for a Sonic game.

Rating

I rate the sound and graphics of Sonic forces with a 7.6.
At least something is good in this game!

What did I think after playing Sonic Forces?

This game was very stale and I did not enjoy it. It was hard to get into the story, Sonic gets tortured for six months and he has no trauma? That is just bad writing, this whole game made no sense at all. While the idea of a personalized character was a good one, it was probably better on paper than how it works now in the game.

Most of the wispons feel useless, if you just stick with one of the first ones, you will be fine for the rest of the game. Equipment is mostly cosmetic instead of it actually doing anything. Most of the levels, with your own hero, were the easiest.

Rating

I rate Sonic Forces with a 6.0 after playing.
While this can be a fun game for you to play for a few hours, the fun will soon end!

What are my personal thoughts about Sonic Forces?

It seems that the developers could not decide on which Sonic to use, or your hero character. They just mixed it all up for each level, which was very annoying!

Rating

My personal rating of Sonic Forces is a 3.5.

Last Words

Pros

Cons

spoiler alert!

Apparently, Sonic can get tortured for god knows how long, and he has no problems at all. This makes no sense, if someone gets tortured, they will most likely have Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Yes, this is a game, if you do not know how to deal with it in a game, just leave the whole torture part out of the game.

Final Rating

6.3/10

Imagine how amazing this game would be if they put as much effort into the game itself as they did to the character customization…

My small sons are funs of Sonic character and Sonic Generations – single game about Sonic in my Steam library. It was interesting to read this review. And I don’t think that I should buy this game. But Sonic Generations is really good game =)
