Introduction

Today we are going to look at a classic game that has received a lot of love and even new updates ten years after release. That is right, today we’ll review Titan Quest, does this game still hold up after this many years? My wife and I will be playing in this co-op mode. I hope you enjoy a ride into mythology!

What did I think before playing Titan Quest?

Do you have a game that has eluded you for a long time? You know, one of those games that you would have loved to play back in the day but never got to it? That is Titan Quest for me, I always wanted to play it, but I never did. I knew it was in the same vein as Diablo in Ancient Greece, so why did I never get around to playing it? Who knows? Time to check the Steam Page for more information.

The Steam Page

The Steam Page clarifies it that this is indeed an old game, but it has received countless updates and graphical improvements to work today. Well, I will have to test that, as long as the multiplayer works good. I was very much in the mood to challenge this game.

Rating

I rated Titan Quest with an 8,7 before playing.
It is clear that this is one of the major games in its genre, it is even getting a sequel soon!

Story

This game takes place in the age where Gods and Humans disconnected from each other. Of course, evil forces decide that this is the perfect opportunity to meddle as they try to awaken a Titan to destroy all of humanity. In the wake of this news, a hero must rise, a hero who can challenge Titans and not die, probably a demigod.

Rating

I rate the story of Titan Quest with a 7.3.
While I did like the story, it does not just follow Greek Gods, it is going to scatter and visit many pantheons.

Gameplay

Now, on to the gameplay, the first thing you will need to do is choose a class. There are many of them and all of them have different purposes. Suffice it to say to put them into three categories. Tank, damage output and crowd control. Here comes the fun part, when you level up enough, you can pick a second class and combine them!

With each level up, you will gain attribute points to increase your basics stats, or choose for health or energy. Next to that, you will have skill points. These can also be gained by completing one of the many quests this game offers.

To learn new skills, you will need mastery in said class. Each mastery point cannot be undone and will increase your basic stats. As for other skills, you can reset them in major towns. There are many skill points to gather with a max level of 85, along with quests you can complete on three difficulties.

Gathering new items to equip can either be hard or easy, depending on your preference. Enemies drop what they are holding, there is also a transfer storage if you find loot for another job you wish to try one day. Getting monster components and relics is harder, this also makes it challenging to make a special orb that grants new powers, you also need the lower tier ones to make better orbs.

Rating

I rated the gameplay of Titan Quest with an 8.2
There are many hours of gameplay to enjoy in this game, you can waste your life with it!

Sound and Graphics

Graphics

The graphics, while still looking older, do look pimped up. You can even switch between the new and old user interface, which makes this as clear as day. There is a lot happening on the screen at any given time. If we keep in mind that this game is very old, the graphics are on par.

Sound

The game has many different soundtracks, ranging from Greek jams to Oriental jams. This is paired with epic soundtracks and a sweet mix of ambiance that immerses you in the world that it is trying to portray.

Rating

I rated the sound and graphics of Titan Quest with an 8.9
Amazing!

What did I think after playing Titan Quest?

My wife and I bought all the DLC, we have just finished the main story and are starting with Atlantis. This DLC adds a great way to splurge your money with random loot. We spawned so many orbs it started lagging the game, and you could not even see the loot anymore!

If you are looking for a fun co-op game, then this is the perfect game for you. When connecting to each other’s server, we still saw many other servers that were up and running, which means this game still has a large audience.

Rating

I rated Titan Quest with a 9.0.
Things got really whacky when we visited the Norse gods, where the hell is this all going? There was even a Svetlana in the game…

What are my personal thoughts about Titan Quest?

My wife and I sincerely enjoyed playing this game, even if it was hard to find decent loot at the later stages of the game. Having me as a tank, and Simone build for damage, we ripped through the crowds,

Rating

My personal Rating of Titan Quest is a 9.2
A lovely action role playing game.

Thanks for the test! I loved Titan Quest but it’s been so long… I’ve only played the base game but the DLC makes me want to get back into it.

It was my second game of this type after Diablo I / II. Absolutely love it, the music is so good and fighting monsters from mythology is so epic. I like it even a little more than Diablo II, mostly for superficial reasons (I like the ancient greek theme more than the dark gothic theme).

I would side with your personal rating more than the final rating. I loved this game, and loved the Greek mythology stuff in it (and I know you love it too). :3

The con you had about finding items – there is a mod called Xmax, which lets you amp the difficulty by multiplying the number of enemies. This makes it easier to find items too. 🙂

I tried this game a couple of times, it seemed cool but I never stuck too long with it. Maybe I should consider going back to it at some point…
