Introduction
Today we have a new list for you! This time, we are going to tackle five games that we don’t expect to see a sequel in the near future. Yes, it works like a normal list, number one will most likely never see a sequel. All the original games have been reviewed by me! Now, let’s go check out the rules of this list.
Rules
1 All candidates must be on Reviews by Supersven
2 Spin off games, like Chrono Cross, are not counted as sequels.
3 DLC is also not counted as sequel, or games that have been re-released with extra features.
4 Modded and fan games are not allowed for obvious reasons.
5: Chrono Trigger

Now, why do we start with this game? Yes, there is Chrono Cross and there is a debate whether it is a sequel or not. In my opinion, no, it is not. It is a game set in an alternate timeline and does not follow up on the original game. While it is likely we might get a sequel somewhere in the future, or maybe a remake, there is a good reason this will probably not happen.
No developing team wants to burn their hands on this gem. Make a remake and it sucks, you are doomed. Make a sequel, and it does not live up to the hype of the original, you are doomed. While there is a lot of demand for a sequel, it takes a lot of guts and money to make this happen.
4: Dante's Inferno

Why does Dante’s Inferno get a spot on this list? While there is indeed demand for this game to be remastered, or better yet, a remake. Rumors have been debunked, but new ones keep showing up. The chances for a sequel are low, but not improbable. Chances are we might see a remake in ten years or so.
Why does this game deserve a sequel? Imagine going beyond the story? To finally see what happens after going through the nine circles. The graphics would be intense, the story would need to be perfect. Since this such a well known name, you might just burn your hands on the sequel curse.
3: Viva Piñata

Now, let us first tackle Trouble in Paradise, is it a new game? Yes, but if this game was released in this era, that would have been classified as DLC. Not only does it follow the original story, it only adds a few new features. We never got a real sequel, we did get a Viva Piñata party game.
This game is mostly forgotten by developers. But imagine, a sequel with the graphics nowadays, the fantastic ways you could edit your garden. The extra space for new Piñatas. A sequel, if done right, would rock the world. Although, it has almost been twenty years since release, might be a perfect time for a surprise sequel. Rare and Xbox would have to make it but Rare is no longer what it used to be.
2: Goof Troop

Why this old game? Back when it came out, this game was gold, but the technology was not very far yet. It had co-op, fun battles, innovating puzzles and more. A sequel will most likely never happen, but imagine this game nowadays. You could have more tools, better dungeons, great bosses!
Not only that, they could upgrade the co-op system. Maybe even add a whole world map. Despite that, a sequel will never happen, we can dream what could have been if this game was released today.
1: Brutal Legend

There are many reasons why a sequel to this game will never happen. One of them is that you will need a ton of money to hire Jack Black, but that is not even the biggest problem. The copyright costs for all the music would be insane. We all know what happens next, you will need to buy songs, destroying the whole game.
Not only that, the game did end on a good note. While it is easy to make a new villain that fits in, they would have to reinvent the wheel for gameplay. They had an open world, how would they do that these days? A smaller, open world? A large one? Getting the same developers will be impossible, how do they improve upon a perfect game without falling into the pits that this era brings? While epicly awesome, this will never happen.
Last Words
I hope you liked this list about sequels we will probably never see. I had a lot of fun in making this list, but it also made me a tad sad, I would kill for a new Viva Piñata game!
Please let me know in the comments what you think about our list, do you agree with me, or do you know other games that could have made the list?
Honorable mentions I considered for this list, not all of them have been reviewed yet.
1 Spore
2 Alice Madness Returns (already a sequel, but the follow-up game will never happen)
Do you have any suggestions for other types of lists? Please let me know in the comments!
Thank you for reading.
I choose Elden Ring. They didin’t do discount early, not after years 🙂 They sold 23 million copies. Its really good money and i think they won’t spend their money for second game. I heard they release DLC. Maybe they will test us and they want to know how many people get this DLC, after that they would think potential sequel but i dont think it has possible
I also think an Elden Ring sequel is quite improbable. I’d rather have a Bloodborne sequel.
I think that Hogwarts Legacy sequel is also unlikely, cuz unfortunately Warner Bros. wants to focus on free to play games. They even announced that will remove over 20 games from Steam by the end of May.
Removing Steam games is such a bad move.
I really like this game “Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines” and I always wish it would have a sequel.
A few years back there was news about the development of a sequel,
but it looks like it suffered the same curse as the first game’s development,
and then got suspended. The newest news I got is that they might pick up what is
left and build a dumb down version of the original idea for the sequel,
which to me is not a sequel anymore. I would be glad to be proven wrong.
I have never played these games, might have to check them out for a review eventually!
Disco Elysium – Everyone heard how long this game was developed, i had high hopes before playing this game and.. it still didn’t dissapointed me so a very good job devs! Only minus that i would like it just to be longer and I heard that devs have some problem so it will be hard for a sequel.. Great narrative game with rpg elements and with unique vibes.
Then a sequel might happen, in a dozen or so years.
Minecraft – It’s the ever evolving game that will never be in need of a standalone sequel XD
Sunset Overdrive – This was a real fun game, I had a blast with it. But Insomniac officially cancelled work on a sequel so it sadly is quite unlikely that they will reignite the project.
Minecraft does have spin-off games!
Definitely “Stardew Valley”. The game is awesome and keeps getting updates, but a sequel is highly unlikely. Eric Barone is working on his new game, Haunted Chocolatier, which is set in a different universe, so we probably won’t see more Stardew Valleys. Maybe it’s for the best, because it makes it that much more special. 😀
Haunted Chocolatier, that sounds awesome.
Apex Legends, because EA are laying off more and more developers from the company behind it called Respawn and also I firmly believe the game has run it’s course in the FPS sector. There are newer more innovative titles on the market that have drawn veterans of Apex away.
The fact that a recent e-sports competition run on Apex got hacked and then had to be re-run without a stream at an undisclosed date and time also didn’t do it any favours with regards staying relevant for e-sports going forwards.
You also have to question what EA could bring to a new version of Apex that has not already been done by everyone else now.
For the moment it’s still just about making EA money, otherwise they would have abandoned it altogether already.
Never played Apex Legends, but I dislike EA. They should make a Spore sequel.
Half-Life 🥴
no, not really 😀 … HL has MASSIVE potential especially with Alyx included 😀
but honestly: I think Legacy of Kain. Because it’s story is concluded.
A remake would be awesome because the constrols are a bit…. well … soulreaver sometime a pain in the ass (sorry for that) but storywise top notch! Soulreaver 1 + 2 and Defiance are three separate games with one big story. One doen’t make sense without the others. But … it’s concluded, so ony remake or spinoff would be possible
A new hero with a new sequel? Never played the games, don’t know if that is in the cards.
Redfall beacuse game is poop, nothing else to say…
Don’t Starve Together, they already have a good game with many updates. Even if making a new one there could be many new ideas that change it enough, I don’t think they would make a sequel of it
I guess that game starves alone without a sequel.
I would name PUBG first – like Minecraft and Apex Legends, it’s a game that receives regular updates, and it wouldn’t make too much sense to make a new game.
Since I am not sure if that works… I would also name Baba Is You, and Revita!
That are indeed some good options that will most likely not see a sequel.
