Viva Piñata: Party Animals review

Introduction

Today we are going to party with some piñatas! It is time to race and play mini-games. There is not much else to this game. You can also play co-op, this is only a fun game if you have friends. You get to choose characters from the TV series and then race and gather candy to win the first price! Since this is a party game, there is no story.

What did I think before playing Viva Piñata party animals?

I always wanted to try this game, but it was sadly not on game pass. However, it recently came with the gold games of the Xbox service. My wife and I off course downloaded this game immediately and started playing. We thought it would be akin to Mario Party except for walking on a board you would be racing. For more information, we went to the Wikipedia page.

The Wikipedia page

As we had expected, it was indeed a party game! There are playable characters from the TV series, including the female counterparts. There are mini-games and races to play, whoever gets the most points will win, and then another party will start.

Rating

I rate Viva Piñata Party Animals with a 7.5 before playing.
To really enjoy this game, you need friends.

Gameplay

The gameplay of Viva Piñata Party Animals starts with a race, depending on how well you race, points will be given either more or less to you when winning a mini-game. The mini-games are quite similar, but they are just different to each other that you notice that they are different. If you play together with friends, the mini-games are fun.

At the beginning of the game, you can change how long the game will take. The long version will take around one hour to complete. We did encounter some of the same games but we did not mind, however if you play multiple times, this will get annoying.

Rating

I rate the gameplay of Viva Piñata Party Animals with a 7.2
The gameplay is fun, but it does get repetitive.

Sound and Graphics

Graphics

The graphics are better than expected, you would not expect this game was very old. Despite that, there are not a lot of graphical assets. The biggest graphical items are the races, that also include items that you can use.

Sound

The soundtracks are still fun, and the voice-over for the races and mini-games are done in the same kind of manner as sports games.

Rating

I rate the sound and graphics of Viva Piñata Party Animals with a 6.8.
While the game is still great graphical wise in this age, there are just not many graphical assets in this game.

What did I think after playing Viva Piñata Party Animals?

My wife and I had a lot of fun when playing this game, the races are great, but the mini-games get boring after playing them too much. There were some games that we completely suck at.

We enjoyed the races more compared to the mini-games, however some races can be deceiving  in the route. You can use items to try and get the first place,

Rating

I rate Viva Piñata Party Animals with a 6.6 after playing.
This game does get repetitive and is not fun without friends.

What are my personal thoughts about Viva Piñata Party Animals?

My wife and I did enjoy the game, but after a few runs, we were quite done with the game.

Rating

My personal Rating of Viva Piñata Party Animals is a 6.1
If only there were more races and mini-games.

I thought this was something new. Turns out it’s from 15 years ago but I’ve never heard of it since it never made it out of consoles.

Thanks for your review! It’s sad to hear that this game gets boring. Not the feature I would seek for while choosing a game to play =)
