Introduction
Wizard of Legend is a roguelike game that will pit you against many dangerous enemies that are imbued with chaos. You will need to test your mettle against the council members of magic to become the wizard of legend.
You will have to grind your way to a viable build before you can really take on this game. This game can be completed in the first run if you know what you are doing, there is an item that will literally let you one-shot the endgame boss.
All you need to do is attack before he attacks you because this item will reduce your max health points to one.
There is barely any story in the game except for the fact that you will need to take part in the chaos trials to prove you are a wizard of legend. This is why will not make the story section in this review.

What did I think of wizard of legend before playing?
The game seemed fun to me and I had decided to place it in the poll of the week along with other roguelike games, wizard of legend came out victoriously.
The game footage I had seen before playing looked great but I had a few doubts.  I have played games that I had doubts about before and they turned out to be amazing.
I installed the game and booted it up, after a little tutorial I saw immediately I needed a lot more equipment to even get started in this game, thus the grind for chaos gems began.
To farm the chaos gems I equipped relics for gathering more, like the one that makes them randomly appear. I kept playing the first world and after killing the council member I kept jumping in holes to reboot or run into monsters.

When I had around 800 to 900 chaos gems, I equipped a relic that is shaped like a crown for more damage when you have loads of chaos gems. This enabled me to very quickly gain chaos gems. I only needed a few minutes to complete the first world. The grinding went even faster if I found a cursed relic called chaotic comedy.
When I had around 970 chaos gems (after learning 999 was the maximum amount of chaos gems) I bought some items. I repeated this for around five hours before actually beginning the real game. The game features co-op but my wife did not feel attracted to the game, she told me to play this game solo. She was most likely having the same doubts as me when she saw the footage but we did try one run and got all the way up to the third council member.
My wife really disliked the game, the co-op in this game was also really flawed and broken. This did not help.

Gameplay
Wizard of legend is a roguelike that will try to test your mettle but the only challenging thing is the endgame boss. The normal dungeons and council members can easily be defeated without getting hit except for the last one.
The gameplay mechanics seem complicated but they are quite simple once you get the hang of it. Arcana’s are used to perform your main attacks, you will start with 500 health points but you can upgrade your health with many relics.
Arcana comes in various elements that you can use to make your own build. You can buy new arcana in the main hub before you start a chaos trial run. These are the available elements in Wizard of legend,
– Lightning
– Water
– Earth
– Air
– Fire
– Chaos

The chaos arcana can only be obtained by defeating the endgame boss, you will have to do 18 successful runs to gather them all. There are many other things that you can do in the main area before starting a chaos trial run.
You can buy new relics in the main hub. To buy new relics or arcana you will need chaos gems that you can collect when you are doing a chaos trial run. Other items that you can buy are clothes, they will give you different bonuses depending on the build that you want to make. If you want to refresh the relic shop or arcana shop you can use the teleporter to return to your home and then return back to the hub. This is perfect for when you are looking for a certain elemental arcana or relic.

In the wizard of legend you can equip up to six arcana but you can only start with four. Any arcana that you find in the chaos trials run will not be added to your book where the arcana is stored. The same goes for any relics that you have found. Only items that you can buy with chaos gems will be added to your treasure chest (your chest talks) or book. Clothing can only be purchased with chaos gems and will be added to your wardrobe. You will only be able to bring one relic with you into the chaos trial run but you can equip up to twelve. What can these relics do for you? You will need to synergize with your clothing and arcana to create a good build. Relics can give you many benefits, they can give your attacks a poison element or increase your damage. You can equip up to twelve relics in the chaos trials, most of them need to be bought with coins. Coins will reset when you die in a chaos trial. In my opinion, this game is very luck based and less skill-based. There are a few good relics that you can start your game with but you will need to buy them first with chaos gems and don’t forget to equip them at your treasure chest before you start your run. If you want to gain more gold you can use the gloves of Midas. If you want to know where to go, you can use the pathfinder map but there are also some other relics that will increase your damage per second. The combo glove will be available early on and will give your basic arcana attack one extra combo.
There are so many relics that I cannot list them all. You can learn this game the best by playing it. The mechanics are simple but efficient and the game difficulty is based on how well you can handle these kinds of games. For me, this game was very easy. You also have cursed relics, these can help you but also destroy you. These cursed relics usually give one very strong benefit but also one negative downside. You will need to weigh if the cursed item fits in your build and if you can live with the downside. I don’t get hit a lot, so cursed items that increase my damage but reduces max health are perfect for me. If you get hit a lot, I would not recommend this cursed relic. The cursed relics need to have a downside for the balance of the game.

When you have explored the hub and got some items to try out your first run, you will need to know what you will find in the chaos trial. There are five different worlds that all use a different elemental. Three of them get randomly chosen and you will most likely start in another world each time when you enter the chaos trial. The levels are randomly generated but they use the same pathing many times. You will also encounter the same room many times. You will need to complete two stages before you will face off against one of the council members. In each stage there are four events, the starting point. The relic trader where you can buy new relics with the coins that you have collected, there will also be a potion. You can only buy one potion per stage and the more times that you use the potion the less effective it will become. This can be counteracted by using a certain relic. An event that is indicated by a red portal, these usually includes characters that will try to harm you but they can be useful. The last event will be an arcana shop, you can buy new arcana here to use in the chaos trials. These will disappear when you get defeated. After completing one stage you will need to defeat a mini-boss before you can continue. After defeating the mini-boss, there will be a chest with loot, the loot pool is usually some chaos gems, health orbs, and coins. If you are lucky there will also be a relic inside the chest. Your goal is to defeat three of five council members and then fight master Sura. If you are a slow player and like to crush this game you should use chaotic comedy, you might have only 1 health point but all enemies will also die in one hit.

Sound and Graphics
The graphics are old school but I love the art style but it is nothing special.
The sounds and sound effects are good for the game but it was nothing too special.

What did I think of the game after playing?
The game was advertised to be hard but it was really easy for me to complete. It took me around six hours to beat the final boss master Sura. He granted me a new chaos spell and a badge to celebrate defeating him.
Wizard of Legend was really grindy for me. The first five hours I have only been grinding chaos gems, the currency you will need to buy new spells and relics. After grinding many chaos gems and hitting the max of 999 gems, I mass purchased a lot of relics and arcana and grinded some more chaos gems. When I felt satisfied that had enough gems and practiced some of the patterns that the council members used, I went in for the real deal. I managed to complete the game in the first try after grinding the chaos gems. It felt really anti-climactic as I easily rushed through the game and then reached Master Sura and beat him on my first attempt. The game is fun but only for a short burst in the beginning and the fun will quickly fade. With each subsequent run, I can feel my interest fading in the game but that does not stop me from playing the game enough to complete an honest review. I even managed to get all the achievements and gain platinum on Steam. It took me about 15 hours to gain platinum for Wizard of Legend.

I decided to push the limits even farther, I grinded some more and bought all the arcana in the shops and relics. To complete this game for real I wanted to challenge myself. I have beaten all the council members except Sura without getting hit. After 18 hours I am putting this game down and mark it as completed.I really disliked the game even though I have platinumed the game and managed to beat the game within 18 hours. In roguelikes, I usually tend to play longer.
The game is not hard for me at all and the game was mostly grinding for unlocking more items in the hub. The co-op was very flawed, suddenly we had to fight each other which made zero sense. This was cut out of the video because we did not want to kill each other and had a little discussion behind the scenes.
The coins were merged together meaning we could not both buy enough relics to finish the game. This led to our demise at the third council member, also it was the first time my wife played Wizard of Legend. There where also no extra health orbs to compensate for two people playing.
I did like the mechanics with the relics and the arcana, I really liked the cursed relic system. I was really glad when I finally finished the game but I really had to seek a challenge before finally facing a challenging battle.
Defeating the council members without getting hit was challenging but I could have done it way easier by using chaotic comedy but that felt like cheating. Technically it is not since it is a relic. If you draw first you live!
The game is a good roguelike but it is only fun for a short burst.

My personal rating of this game is a 4.8

Pros and Cons

Pros
– The gameplay mechanics are worked out well.
– The boss battles are fun fights.
– There are many relics, arcana, and clothing to create your own build.
– The graphics are good.
– There are many events in the chaos trials that you can encounter.
– You can whack a pinata.

Cons
– The game features a lot of grinding to actually start creating a build or playing the game.
– Chaos gems are limited to 999, I wanted to have more in my inventory to upgrade some relics that use chaos gems for more damage, even if it was heavily reduced after 1000 chaos gems.
– You will encounter the same rooms many times.
– Not all tooltips for items are clear on what they are going to do. I have found myself looking up some relic information to be sure I understood it right.

I do recommend this game to people who like roguelikes or harder games, if you are accustomed to roguelike this game might be easier for you than the game advertises. I and my wife both did not like the game but we loved to play it for the review. The game has fairly solid mechanics except for the co-op, which is very important to us.
I give this game a …drumroll…

This game has been sitting in my library, and it doesn’t seem to have very high ratings, but from what I’ve seen in your video, it looks interesting. I was thinking of playing it with a friend, but it might be better to enjoy it alone, haha.🐑
