Introduction
This is a short review, the first one to be aired, why a short review? Because this Sonic RPG is still in the works and only a demo is available. This demo of Sonic RPG the Lost Chaos Emerald can be finished in one hour, who knows how long the full game will be but I saw some cool and interesting levels that will be added later! For the short review, I will not add a section of what I thought before and after playing this game.
Story
Sonic and Tails are scooping out what seems to be another attack by Doctor Robotnik, Sonic and Tails think this will be the millionth time that Doctor Robotnik will fail but this time, there might be something different than our heroes do not know yet. The video below will contain spoilers!
I rate the story of Sonic RPG the Lost Chaos Emerald with a 7.0 as the state of the story is now.
I will not spoil the story but you might not like me when I tell you that the story ends with a gigantic cliffhanger.
Gameplay
Sonic RPG the Lost Chaos Emerald is made with the RPG maker engine, this shows in the combat setup but the tilesets are of course, very different. The map is 3D and you are able to walk up, down, and even diagonally if there is a space to walk to. In the levels, you will find rings that you can use for healing or buying items in the shop. As of now Sonic and Tails are only playable but Knuckles will be added later on. Battles are turn-based, when you see an enemy you can walk into the enemy to initiate combat.
Sonic can be used to dish out damage and tank some of the enemy hits, Tails is more of a healer but can also dish out some damage on his own. After every battle, you will gain experience points to level up your party members. At certain levels, you will learn new skills. There is also a crafting system in the game but it is heavily underused in the demo but it will play a big role in the full game.
After every two level ups, you will gain two stat boosts that you can apply to yourself thus making the characters into the role that you want. Will you add more defense to create a tank? Or will you make a glass cannon? There are many different options!
I rate the gameplay of Sonic RPG the Lost Chaos Emerald with a 7.0
The gameplay is not completely finished yet but there are many aspects that I can see that would make this game amazing in the end. The stat boosts allow you to create the party members how you see fit, currently, backtracking is not possible but the developer is going to implement this option soon.
Sound and Graphics
The graphics are looking great, the developer wanted to resemble graphics from the Genesis and Megadrive era and I can say that this succeeded quite well. The sprites are taken from an alternative source but the developer has edited almost every aspect of the sprites to be able to use the sprites correctly in the RPG maker engine. There are few graphical glitches but they are being worked on.
The sound and sound effects sound exactly like how Sonic would sound in any original game, there is nothing to complain about here, there is also some mild voice acting.
I rate the sound and graphics with a 7.0
My personal rating
I did enjoy the demo a lot and the mechanics are solid as is the story but for me, I want to wait a bit longer to raise my personal rating this does not mean that I did not enjoy the demo at all! I did like that there achievements in this game!

I like to play the fully released game when the developer finishes Sonic RPG the Lost Chaos Emerald.
Pros
– The demo makes clear what the developer wants to achieve for his full game.
– This game is a decent attempt at making a Sonic RPG.
– The story seems to be written well, I am curious as to how it will develop.
– The graphics remind me of old-school sonic.
– You can customize the party the way that you see fit!
– The story ends on a cliffhanger, I bet you want to continue when there is new content.
– The developer will fix the bugs that I have found.
– The demo can be downloaded for free!
Cons
– This game is still a demo and it might take a while to be completely finished.
– The story ends on a cliffhanger.
– Minor graphical glitches and bugs.
– Text bugs that will be fixed in the future.
Even though this game is not yet fully complete I would recommend you to try out the demo of Sonic RPG the Lost Chaos Emerald as the demo is free!
The bosses took up to 10 minutes to complete as you could see in the video but the developer has already nerved the bosses!
